Regarding sexual sin such as fornication, adultery, homosexuality, and lesbianism, these particular sins are most damaging to your relationship with Christ. It defiles our spirit and our bodies as well, which are the temple (or habitation) of God. Yet today, sexual sin is so rampantly practiced in our culture, even among so-called “Christians.” This is devastating to the individual, and the church of Jesus Christ who is called to be pure.
Some use the excuse that “everybody is doing it,” and “it’s legal according to our civil government, therefore it must be okay.” Others claim that we should not “judge” others, lest we be judged.
I get frustrated with the ignorance of people who use Matthew 7:1-5 “Do not judge” as a blanket excuse to avoid confronting habitual sexual sin in other people’s lives. That is not what Jesus was talking about. He was speaking of hypocritical judgment, that is, criticizing others for their small sins (specks) while overlooking our own (logs) in the eye. It is the sin of being preoccupied with the sins of others while ignoring your own (fault-finding).
Righteous Judgment and the Rational Use of Logic
Jesus taught us: “Do not judge by the outward appearance, but judge with RIGHTEOUS JUDGMENT” – John 7:24
Jesus was saying we are perfectly justified in evaluating, assessing, and pronouncing a verdict on the lifestyle of others based on what God’s Word teaches us. It’s not a matter of our own personal opinion, but rather, what God has to say about it in the Bible.
The purpose of righteous judgment is to discern and fulfill the will of God in any given situation, the rational basis for decision-making. It has nothing to do with being “loving or unloving” or practicing “unconditional love,” as many will try to argue. In fact, we are warned to have nothing to do with any Christian brother or sister who habitually (and without remorse) practices sexual sin.
How are we to follow this commandment to avoid such people if we do not exercise righteous judgment (discernment)?
What does the Bible say about associating with professing Christians which practice sexual sin?
“You must not associate with anyone who claims to be a brother or sister in Christ, who is SEXUALLY IMMORAL or greedy, an idolater or slanderer, a drunkard or swindler.” – 1 Corinthians 5:11
“Do not be misled: ‘Bad company (sinful associations) corrupts good character.'” – 1 Corinthians 15:33.
“Marriage is to be held in honor among all, and the marriage bed is to be undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers (homosexuals, bisexuals, lesbians, trans, queers, etc.) God will judge.” – Hebrews 13:4
“…avoid immoral men and homosexuals, kidnappers, liars and perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound teaching…”- 1 Timothy 1:10
“Flee from sexual immorality; every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body.” – 1 Corinthians 6:18
“But sexual immorality and all impurity or covetousness must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints (Christians).” – Ephesians 5:3
“Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.” 1 Corinthians 6:9-10
The only solution to sexual sin: GIVE IT UP!
Ask Jesus Christ to forgive you of your sinful past and sexual perversions. Invite Him to become the Lord and Savior of your life. Become spiritually born-again and start a new life in Christ. Attend a good Bible-believing church and become part of your local Christian community. Pray every day for God to transform you into a new man or woman, and He will. Amen.
“Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and spirit, bringing holiness to completion in the fear of God.” – 2 Corinthians 7:1
I hope this helps you in your study of sexual immorality in the many forms it takes. Being “gay” is an abomination to God. So is having any form of sex outside of the holy bonds of marriage. I realize this is not a very popular moral stand in today’s immoral culture, but it is not my own opinion. It is solely based on God’s Word and holy commandments. You can obey His commandments and receive God’s forgiveness and blessings, or you can ignore this warning and reap everlasting destruction. The choice is yours.
The LORD God Yehovah created the woman for the man for the purpose of marriage, companionship, and procreation. Any other form of sexual activity is a sin and must be repented of and completely put away when you become a Christian.
